The Ins and Outs of CJ’s Butter
By: Jessica Dunn
When I started to think about using cloth diapers, I was
overwhelmed. Once I got my head wrapped around the different types of cloth
diapers and all the brands, I was then hit by two bombs, CD (cloth diaper) safe
detergent and diaper rash cream. “Are you kidding me? I can’t just use the
stuff I can buy at Target?” Those were the exact questions I screamed at my
computer as I was trapped in bed on bed rest. At least I had plenty of time on
my hands to research.
I decided to try to CJ’s Butter because I read great things
about it and there were so many different scents to try and different types of
products I could use. I have serious smell aversion, so I didn’t want to get
stuck with something that smelled disgusting or made me want to gag.
I’m so glad that I decided to try CJ’s
because it has become one of my favorite products and I give it as gifts all
the time. Here’s a brief (well, somewhat brief) comparison of three of their
products. These are the three that I use on my daughter regularly for diaper
cream and rash treatment.
CJ’s BUTTer sticks come in two sizes, small
(.75 ounces) and large
(2 ounces). I keep these in the diaper bag because they’re easiest to travel
with and don’t take up much space. They remind me of glue sticks in the way
they are used. Pull off the cap and twist the bottom to get to the product. You
can apply it directly to the bum, but I’m not a huge fan of that. I don’t think
it’s super sanitary, so I apply it to my hands and then rub it on her bum. (Clean
hands of course). It doesn’t take much I rub the stick on my index and middle
fingers from the tip to the first knuckle. That has always been plenty.
My favorite uses: diaper bag, traveling
Spritz
(4 ounces) is rapidly becoming one of my favorite products because it’s so easy
to use and it’s super sanitary. Pop off the cap, spray, rub and you’re done.
It’s also a great on the go wipe solution. I can spray a dry wipe or a slightly
damp wipe and clean and condition all at once. I have even used it as a
leave-in conditioner for my curly hair; spritz it on my wet hair, scrunch and
go. When we have houseguests, I even spray the sheets lightly in our guestroom.
(CJ’s does make a linen spray, but I haven’t tried it yet).
My favorite uses: on the go wipe solution, traveling, body
spray, linen spray
Pot
(8 ounces) and Tub
o’Butter (12 ounces)
This is my favorite product for on the diaper change table.
It will last forever. I grab a small amount on my finger tip or use a q-tip to
grab a little and then rub it onto my fingers before I apply it to Emma’s bum.
My husband works in a warehouse and has horribly dry hands, so he applies some
before he goes to bed at night. I really like it for my feet. I put it on and
the put socks on so I can wake up to soft feet in the morning. I think my
personal favorite use is melting it under the hot water and then using it in
the bath tub. It smells great and my skin feels amazing afterwards.
My favorite uses: diaper change table, nightstand for dry
hands/feet, bath tub
Scents
The scent variety is amazing. There are so many different
options that there’s no way that I can describe each one, but I can tell you that
I haven’t tried one that I don’t like and that definitely means something
coming from me. I do have some favorites, so I’ll share those with you: monkey
farts, blueberry crumble, apples and spice (fall limited scent, so grab it
while you can), my pixie pie, pink sugar, and warm vanilla cake. I definitely
encourage you to order some samples and try as many scents as you can.
Uses
CJ’s can be used for so much more than diaper cream. It can
be by children and adults for eczema, rashes, dry/chapped skin, dry hands/feet
and cuticles, hangnails, leave-in hair conditioner, melt a dollop under running
bath water, and wind burned cheeks/face.
